Grand Roy Government receives additional help from the Isle of Bute, Scotland

Tuesday 11th July, 2006-St. George’s: Teachers from the Isle of Bute, Scotland, Mr. And Mrs. David Hanschell visited the Grand Roy Government School on Tuesday 11th July, 2006 to present the principal and teachers with school equipment and a cheque for approximately ₤300 to aid in the schools rehabilitation effort.

Mr. and Mrs. Hanschell joined forces with other organizations immediately after hurricane Ivan devastated Grenada to organize an appeal for surplus school equipment from throughout Argyll and Bute, to send to the Grand Roy Government School.

That equipment filled a large container which was shipped to Grenada in July 2005. The container contained tables, chairs, blackboards, school books, filing cabinets and computers which were pressed into immediate use by the school.

However, the Hanschell’s enthusiasm for the project didn't stop the day that container left the assembly point at Sandbank during the summer holidays.

In fact, thanks mostly to the generosity of Rothesay Primary and St Andrew’s Primary, another container is presently being loaded with much needed school equipment.

Mr. Hanschell who has been in close contact with the principal of the Grand Roy Government School Mrs. Janice Thomas, said that he was happy to see first hand how the teachers and students have put the tools and equipment to good use.

The Isle of Bute teacher said that this visit will also enable him to access the additional needs of the school.

Principal Janice Thomas and her staff took the opportunity to extend their appreciation to the Hanschell’s by presenting them with a token of appreciation.

The Bel Air children's home in Calliste has also benefited from some of the materials sent from Bute.
