Sen. Emmalin
Pierre Minister of Youth |
Thursday April 17th,
2008:
The Youth Arm of the New National Party
is promising Grenadians a treat on
Sunday April 20, 2008 when its stages
its bumper Youth Convention and Rally at
McDonald College and fond Playing field
in St. Patrick’s.
Spearheading preparation for what NNP
Youths claim will be a ‘no sticking’
affair signifying everything will be
first class, Senator Emmalin Pierre says
don’t underestimate the power of young
minds.
She told
Ian Edwards, the host of the ‘NNP Hard
Talk’ Programme on City sounds radio
station 97.5 FM on Wednesday that she
was delighted at the level which the
young NNP supporters and organizers have
been conducting their tasks and
responsibilities.
Previously,
both the Convention and Rally were
scheduled for the McDonald College but
with the youth movement growing over the
past two weeks and enthusiasm for what
is seen as a ‘massive’ occasion that is
being planned, so high NNP decided to
move the rally to the Fond Playing
Field, to accommodate a large crowd.
At the
Convention which will be held at
McDonald College NNP youths will elect a
New Executive to run the affairs of the
Youth Arm. In addition, the Convention
will be looking at social issues
including unemployment, Law and Order,
Cost of Living and Youth and Politics,
with a view to making recommendations
and adopting resolutions for short,
medium and long term solutions.
The rally
will be a celebratory atmosphere, which,
among the components, will be
testimonials by several young persons
who have achieved a sustainable level of
progress in their lives, and the
presentation of the youth executive.
Senator
Pierre, holding the Cabinet portfolio as
Youth Minister will give an overview of
the youth development plans for the next
five years and other speakers including
Economic Development and Planning
Minister Honourable Anthony Boatswain of
St. Patrick West will highlight the
Government’s developmental achievements
in the Parish, while Brother Kennedy
Roberts, the man tipped to contest the
St. George North East seat against Nazim
Burke, will look at the National
achievements.
There will
be remarks by other speakers including,
Senator Carl Caton who will be
contesting the St. Patrick East seat
coming up against Opposition Leader
Honourable Tillman Thomas and Delma
Thomas of the NNP who will be contesting
the St. Andrew North West seat.
Political
Leader, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell
will address the gathering on Grenada in
the past, present and future directions,
placing emphasis on the contributions
young people have made along the way. He
will present awards to young persons in
recognition of their accomplishments and
the strides made, being dedicated to
their country.
Guest
speaker at the Convention and Rally will
be the Parliamentary Secretary in the
Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jamaica,
Mr. Warren Newby, who is expected to
address the way forward for the region’s
youth.
Reiterating
statements by Senator Pierre, the
occasion will all be about positive
vibes in the portrayal of every aspect
of the Convention and rally, especially
with the mood of the celebration at the
Fond Playing Field which will be
punctuated with entertainment by local
and Foreign artistes.
Among them
will be the big names in the music
business; Inspector, Luni Spark and
Electrify, Ajamu, Sheldon douglas, Pappa
Jerry, Zingo, Tallpree, Boogie B, and
Randy Isaac.
The foreign
artistes will be the Jamaican
World-renowned sensation Beenie Man, and
Trinidad and Tobago’s 2008 Soca Monarch
Bunji Garlin, his wife Fayon Lyons and
Maximus Dan.
The
National Democratic Congress (NDC) has
been focusing on criticism about the
foreign acts selected seeking to
discredit the international entertainers
but Senator Pierre assured the Nation
that Sunday will be a day with the NNP
where citizens, particularly the youth
population, will be guaranteed positive
vibes. |
