Successful 22nd annual convention held

Section of the crowd at the Convention evening session

Members and supporters of the New National Party (NNP) turned out in their numbers at the Trade Centre last Sunday to witness their Party’s twenty second annual Convention.

The Convention which was held under the theme “NNP FOR POSITIVE CHANGE – LET THE PROGRESS CONTINUE” saw a crowd in excess of approximately 3000 persons both inside and outside of the venue in a “sea of green”. The New National Party Convention consisted of two sessions. The first which commenced at around 10am was a closed session catering only to Party Executive, observers and delegates. The closed session consisted of in-house matters such as the General Secretary’s Report and the election of officers and the Party’s Executive.

The evening session which was opened to the public and the media saw an exhilarating atmosphere with high spirit and enthusiasm when it commenced at 2pm. An important aspect of the evening session was the LIVE internet streaming on the NNP’S Website of the convention, something which no other political party has ever done in the history of Grenada. This was the session which was very much heated up with all of the New NNP Caretakers making their presentations. They all showed confidence in their chances of gaining victory in their various Constituencies whenever the election is called later this year. Members were ever so often reminded to let the progress continue. General Secretary, Hon. Claris Charles, Deputy Political Leader, Hon. Gregory Bowen and Political Leader, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell all gave a very account of themselves during their presentations.

General Secretary Hon. Claris Charles mentioned to members about the amount of time and effort the NDC is putting into manufacturing propaganda against key members of the NNP Leadership. Minister Charles warned the supporters that they must be prepared to dismiss such propaganda, and must not fall victim to them or even engage in helping to spread the propaganda. Deputy Political Leader, Hon. Gregory Bowen elaborated on the good track record of progress under the New National Party in the areas of Infrastructure, Water, Electricity and Telephone. Mention was made of the Government’s decision to divest some of its shares in Cable and Wireless and Hon. Bowen assured all that the proceeds from such divestment will go towards the liquidating of some of Grenada’s debt, which will eventually result in the lowering of the interest which is paid on these loans. Hon. Bowen also explained that Grenada is expected to gain million of dollars as a result of its involvement in Petro Caribbean. Minister Bowen told the Convention that it is only the New National Party which can be trusted for peace and stability.

Political Leader Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell told supporters that as a result of the resilience shown by Grenadians after the passage of Hurricane Ivan and Emily. And, the rapid recovery of Grenada after those two Hurricanes, persons and leaders from around the World are inviting him to various Conferences to share with them the Grenadian experience. Dr. Mitchell questioned whether the NDC Leader will be capable to share such experiences with the international community if given the opportunity. He asked all to compare the NNP Team in each Constituency with what is offered by the NDC, and to examine if they can compete with the NNP Team in terms of credibility, honesty and ability.

Members, Supporters and the Team of the New National Party ended their Convention with entertainment coming from Zingo and Sheldon Douglas who sang the Party’s latest tune “don’t stop the progress”. The tune “don’t stop the progress” which is performed by the Hitman Inspector and Sheldon Douglas can be downloaded HERE

At the end of the day, there were no major changes to the Officers on the Executive, except that of the PRO to which Mr. Terrence Forrester was elected as PRO once again thereby replacing Ronald Straker.  See our photo gallery for the photos.
