The New
National Party (NNP) is distinquished
qualitatively from the main opposition
National Democratic Congress (NDC) and
other opposition groupings in Grenada,
Carriacou and Petite Martinique in many
important respects. To begin with, we
have the better development Plan for our
tri-island state going forward into the
next five (5) years. In addition, we
have a better, more diverse and
experienced Team for Progress, the
better party and national leader, a more
solid and dynamic historical background,
a better record of solid achievements
and performance and a far more
attractive and respectable
international profile.
Our history
as a political party in the vanguard of
nation building is more successful than
other political parties nationwide and
runs parallel with the ancestral spirit
of progress of our promising democracy.
As a progressive nationalist political
party, we talk- up Grenada, Carriacou
and Petite Martinique where the others
talk her down. We see opportunities and
progress all throughout our society
while the NDC in particular sees only
the need for strife, negativity and
disharmony. Our party relies on the
rear-view mirror of our rich ancestral
past to guide us intelligently on the
road to progress and in doing what is
right and in the interest of the
majority of our people. The uncle (Tom)
Tillman Thomas party on the other hand,
remains hostage to a foreign and
outdated ideology rooted in the denial
of the human spirit to progress and
flourish. Where we put our people first
the NDC puts them last by supporting the
racist and bigoted sentiments of
ex-colonial representatives who persist
in labeling our rich history and people
“a joke” because they see us as
incapable of exercising self-government
on account of the colour of our skin.
Our party
is unique and history-making in another
fundamental respect. Our house is solid
and the pillars are strong because we
have a succession plan anchored in the
soul, wisdom, energy and integrity of
our women and youth. Some 33% of the
members of the current NNP cabinet of
the country are women. Among all fifteen
(15) candidates that will be contesting
the next general elections for the NNP,
some 27% are young people under forty
(40) years of age. And our women make up
a whopping 40% of all fifteen (15) NNP
candidates who will be contesting the
upcoming elections. These are historic
statistics unmatched presently by any
other political party in the
English-speaking Caribbean.
The New
National Party (NNP) joins the League of
Nations such as Sweden, France, Spain,
Germany, Norway and Finland in being a
beacon in the Caribbean of female
representation in politics. We are the
feminist party of the Caribbean which
explains our strong defence in policy of
the rights of women and children. We are
also the party of youth, vigour and
vitality.
What these
facts tell us, is that in the last
twelve (12) to thirteen (13) years we
have not only been busy changing the
infrastructure of Grenada, Carriacou and
Petite Martinique but that we have been
busy changing ourselves as Grenadians
for the better from the inside. When our
women and young people in support of the
NNP come forward in such great numbers
to offer service to the country through
the political system it tell us that
lives have been progressively
transformed for the better in ways that
cannot stop now. This is the meaning of
the massive support we continue to have
throughout our tri-island state and why
we are correct and truthful when we say
We are the Change!
