The
concerted effort to try and destroy the
New National Party is again evident in
the Grenada Today writings. Get rid of
the Political Leader and Deputy
Political Leader and NNP will be done
with. To this end George Worme of the
Grenada Today has publicly announced
that he will use all his energy to
destroy completely Dr. the Right Hon.
Keith Mitchell and the NNP. Chester
Humphrey too, has made it public that he
is only living for one purpose not to
help workers but to destroy Keith
Mitchell and Gregory Bowen, thus
eliminating the New National Party and
effectively having a one party state.
The same
tactics used against Sir Eric Matthew
Gairy are again being employed. This is
not strange since it is the same
grouping in power fighting against the
New National Party. They painted Gairy
as the most corrupt, sexually evil and
undesirable person to achieve the
Grenada Revolution.
They have
again formed the alliance of various
groupings including civil society. But
the alliance is now strained and cracks
are appearing at all levels. Under their
NDC Administration, the economy is
crumbling, victimization is rampant,
unfulfilled election promises of
lowering cost of living, $400.00 to the
elderly, $1,000.00 to the IMANIs,
university education for all who
qualify, jobs for everyone to name a
few.
Instead the
young people are sent home, elderly
citizens chopped from the Public
Assistance Lists, the duty free barrels
are a disaster to the recipients,
farmers and shopkeepers alike and at the
same time prices continue to rise. As
the social anger escalates the NDC bunch
is asking how to divert attention.
Since they
never stopped campaigning to manage the
country, the group met in emergency
sessions and arrived at the conclusion
that they have no choice but to continue
the attacks on the NNP Leadership while
the trade union leaders will ensures
peace and quiet for Government with its
employees. No wonder these Trade Union
Presidents are asking their workers to
forgo increases sanctioned by the NNP
Administration.
Indeed
persons present at the meeting revealed
that some of them were reluctant to
continue along that Propaganda path as
they have been made to look as fools
with the population already seeing
through the lies told during the
election campaign. One must not forget
that the emergency meeting took place
against the backdrop of unfinished
victimization and a certain special
event that must be associated with and
accomplished during independence
celebrations. The public attention must
therefore be diverted just about the
week before independence.
So the
Editor of Grenada prints a story of
Gregory Bowen asking a Russian group of
investors to put monies due to the
Government of Grenada into the account
of an individual. George Worme then
says that the Prime Minister has asked
the DPP to investigate the issue.
The fact is
that the Government of Grenada entered
into an agreement with the Global
Petroleum Group (GPG) a company
interested in exploring for oil and gas
in Grenada, to pay for the defuse of the
arbitration brought by Grynberg against
Grenada for terminating his company’s
right to an exploration license. The
agreement with GPG clearly gives the
Government’s bank account into which the
monies were to be paid. This agreement
was signed on 28th September, 2005 and
gave the GPG a specific time frame to
pay the monies or the contract will
terminate.
The three
incorporating members of GPG are Edward
Vasileu, Hev Korchagin and Lev Model.
The Attorney General gave evidence
against Grenada in London for his client
Grynberg. He is well aware that Lev
Model was an integral part of GPG.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister,
Minister for Finance and Minister for
Tourism among others were members of the
Public Accounts Committee to whom
documents were submitted by the Ministry
of Finance showing that close to US$2.0m
were deposited into Government’s
account.
Known only
to the members of GPG, that company
entered into a separate agreement with
one of its members Lev Model for him to
pay from his personal monies the
estimated cost of the Arbitration and
the company GPG will reimburse Mr. Model
in tranches or a period. That second
agreement, provided for Mr. Model to be
the agent of GPG and gave account
numbers, GOG’s into which Model must
pay.
The records
on file in the Ministry show that Bowen
repeatedly wrote to GPG asking that the
monies under the agreement be paid to
the Government of Grenada. If GPG paid
monies to Model it was of their own
doing since neither the Government nor
the Minister knew of nor influenced
their entering into a parallel
agreement.
It is for
this reason that the offending letter
was withdrawn and an apology tendered.
George Worme and all the others are
aware of this but the task is to divert
attention.
The Grenada
Today must call on the Prime Minister to
investigate a Sitting Minister with
judgment for fraud against him; a former
NDC Parliamentarian for insurance fraud;
a very senior NDC official who
manhandled the Public Service into
providing immoral privileges to a family
member; and officials close to the Prim
Minister, alleged to be involved in
enhancing in conflict of interest.
George Worme must pay his own judgment
penalties.
