St.
George's Grenada, February 15th,
2010: Former Minister for
Tourism, Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen
says she empathizes with persons who
are being affected by the
discontinuation of Air Jamaica’s
services which took passengers from
New York to Grenada and vice versa.
The
member of Parliament for St. Mark
says Grenadians at home and in the
Diaspora have given tremendous
support to Air Jamaica over the
years; and that since the service
was terminated last week, a large
number of persons have been
inconvenienced. The former Minister
is also concerned that this
situation can also lead to a
reduction in the number of visitors
to the island which will further
affect the Tourism Industry.
She
believes that during the period
before the alternative Delta
Airlines commences its flights to
Grenada, the Government should do
all in its power to encourage
potential visitors to seriously
consider using the alternative
routes and airlines available. She
urges that every effort must be made
to keep Delta airlines flying to
Grenada when they commence flights
in July.
The
former Minister also commends the
Grenada Airlift Committee for its
unceasing work to secure airlines
such as Delta to the island.
