St.
George's Grenada, January 13th,
2010: Leader of Her Majesty’s
Opposition, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith
Mitchell says he is currently
reviewing the estimates of revenue
and expenditure for 2010, and will
be presenting a detailed response to
the Parliament, on Monday 18th
January 2010.
According to Dr. Mitchell, with
respect to the 2009 budget, he
advised the Government that it was
not realistic. However, the
Government proceeded without paying
heed to the recommendations of the
Opposition resulting in the
Government having to return to the
Parliament for budgetary support
three months after the budget was
presented. In addition, Grenadians
have been describing 2009 as the
worst year in terms of the economic
hardship that they have faced
despite the promises made by the NDC
while in Opposition.
The
Opposition Leader noted that in 2009
the NDC Government clearly
demonstrated its inability to manage
the economy, and said that the
Government is largely to be blamed
for the economic crisis that we now
face. He said, if the Government is
serious about development and
governance of the country, it will
present a budget that will focus on
job creation, relief and support for
the poor, creating an environment
that will attract new investors
while giving more comfort to
investors who have already taken
risk; and support for private sector
growth and development.
Dr.
Mitchell says his presentation will
not only be a response based on his
assessment of the budget but he
intends to speak for the people of
Grenada, Carriacou and Petite
Martinique. In his presentation Dr.
Mitchell also intends to focus on
initiatives that the NNP would
have taken despite the
international crisis, and the
opportunities that would have been
created by the NNP administration
for the people of Grenada, Carriacou
and Petite Martinique.
