St. George’s, Grenada, May
10th 2010: Leader of the Opposition, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell is
making a special appeal to every Grenadian to offer special prayers for the
families of the victims and the alleged perpetrator of last Mondays brutal
murder which took place in St. Andrew. Dr. Mitchell is also calling on
Grenadians to pray for a complete reverse in what appears to be an increase in
the levels of violence, house breaking, stealing and other criminal activities
in the country.
Dr. Mitchell says it is
extremely necessary for everyone to do everything in their power to reverse this
situation and calls on all Grenadians at home and abroad, every organisation and
institution particularly the church, to increase efforts to arrest this
situation.
The Opposition leader says he
is extremely concerned about incidents which have been occurring over the last
two months particularly the stabbing of a woman at a church service; the killing
of two young men; and most recently a double murder in St. Andrew, among
others. This he said highlights the need for urgent spiritual intervention.
Dr. Mitchell says his heart
goes out to all those who are hurting at this time following those unfortunate
incidents particularly last Monday’s. . The Former Prime Minister says that he
will continue to pray that God will provide strength, protection and direction
to those affected, as they try to cope with such unpleasant and challenging
moments in their lives.
The Opposition further calls on
the leadership of the Royal Grenada Police Force to take a more proactive
approach to solving crime and to put all its efforts and resources into this
cause rather than using police officers for political objectives while
victimizing others who are perceived to be supporters of the New National Party.
