St. George’s, Grenada November 22nd
2011:
The Women’s Arm
of the NNP lends its voice in strengthening the call for
stiffer penalties, to be applied to sexual offenders. This
call comes on the heel of an incident on the Island of
Carriacou; where a man from Grenada, was charged for robbing
and raping a 52yr old non-national female, residing in
Carriacou.
According Ms. Janis
Lessey-Cuffie, President of the Women’s Arm; “the time has
come for Women to lead the change process and it warms my
heart to see women coming out in their numbers to picket the
court house it Carriacou. It tells me that women are more
aware and would not be silenced any longer.
The message must is very clear;
violence against women would not be tolerated in Grenada
Carriacou and Petite Martinique”
The women of the NNP deeply
sympathize with the family and friends of the victim, over
this unfortunate incident and hope that justice is served in
the matter.
