St. George’s, Grenada November 28th,
2011:
THE SECOND SITTING OF THE
GENERAL COUNCIL HELD AT THE MC DONALD COLLEGE, ST. PATRICKS
– SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2011.
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Grenada has been
registering an average negative growth in its economy over
the past three consecutive years;
AND WHEREAS, poor leadership
and the lack of economic vision on the part of the present
Government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which
continue to wreak havoc on the lives and the livelihood of
the people of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique;
AND WHEREAS, unemployment among
the people of Grenada Carriacou and Petite Martinique (The
Tri-Island State), particularly among the youth population,
has reached an astronomical all time high of nearly 40%;
AND WHEREAS, a recent Consumer
Confidence Sentiment Index (CCSI) report from the University
of the West Indies (UWI) revealed that among the fifteen
CARICOM Nations, Grenada CCSI plummeted to an all time low
of 27% for the third quarter of 2011. The UWI CCSI report
stated: “The most dramatic development for the quarter was
an apparent collapse of consumer sentiment in Grenada as the
CCSI for that country fell from 60 to 27”;
AND WHEREAS, the said UWI CCSI
report is a clear indication that the economic condition in
Grenada will get progressively worst because investors -
local, regional and international, view Grenada as a high
risk economic market, and will not take the risks to invest
in such a market. This means no chance of improving the
country’s employment woes.
AND WHEREAS, the present
Government has failed to implement a viable economic
strategy or roll out any projects that can bring economic
relief to the people of the country;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved:
That the New National Party Delegates, in a meeting of the
General Council at Mc Donald College, in the Parish of St.
Patrick’s on Sunday, November 20, 2011, condemn the NDC
Government for its lack of vision and foresight for creating
an enabling economic environment – for failure to initiate
programs for the development of the country. This means that
the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique
cannot improve their standard of living and the country,
under the NDC cannot be restored to economic prosperity.
NOW THEREFORE, in the
circumstance, we resolve that the Minister for Finance (the
Economy - Economic Planning - Energy and Cooperatives),
immediately tender his resignation and failing to do so,
that the Prime Minister summarily relieve him of the office.
