St Georges, Grenada –
January 13th 2012: A delegation led by Leader of the
Opposition and Political Leader of the New National Party
Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell met yesterday with a
delegation from the Grenada Breweries Limited. The meeting
came days after the Opposition met with a delegation from
the Technical & Allied Workers Union (TAWU) and gave a
commitment that every attempt will be made to engage the
Management of the Grenada Breweries Ltd. to discuss the
current impasse between the two parties.
The Breweries delegation led by
Mr. Andrew Sabga outlined their position and the
circumstances leading to the current dispute with TAWU. He
stated their position and willingness to bring an end to the
current impasse. He reiterated that the workers still
remain employees of the Breweries and that no worker was
fired by the company. The team further committed to
continued negotiations with TAWU.
The Opposition believes that
all parties concerned should do everything possible to end
this current impasse in the interest of the over 100 workers
employed at the Breweries. Furthermore, the prolong
industrial dispute is having a negative effects on the
national economy and can negatively affect investor’s
confidence which has been significantly reduced over the
past three years.
The Opposition will continue to
monitor the situation and hopes that good sense will prevail
and that an amicable resolution will be reached in the
soonest possible time.
