Subject: Emergency Health care service Fund brought to focus in St. Patrick’s East

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, Friday, August 02, 2013 - GIS: Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, in responding to the news of the death of a constituent who was unable to secure a CT scan, explained that the government, and specifically the Ministry of Health, under the Honourable Minister Clarice Modeste-Curwin, has installed an emergency fund that can be accessed to address such cases.

The problem in this particular case was that the person affected did not know about the Fund.

Prime Minister Mitchell said, that moving forward, government will have to do a better job of communicating these initiatives and availability of resources to the people.

The lack of basic health care supplies and services was a key item of discussion at the River Sallee Government School on Thursday evening.

Prime Minister Mitchell, MP Honourable Clifton Paul, and Ministers the Honourable Anthony Boatswain, Alvin Dabreo and Kenny Lalsingh participated in an open constituency forum in St. Patrick’s East, as part of a new government initiative to engage the populace in nation building.

Prime Minister Mitchell expressed his condolences and sorrow over learning of the passing of the person, and reiterated the need to continue to source supplies and improve the nation’s healthcare service to prevent such unfortunate circumstances from recurring.

The Prime Minister called on all present, as well as Grenadian citizens and friends in the diaspora, to help with the provision of supplies to our local hospitals and medical centers.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for assistance already received from the diaspora community in helping to improve the nation’s health service sector.
