Subject: GBSS student takes the top spot in CXC

ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA, Wednesday, August 14, 2013 -GIS: The Grenada Boys Secondary School has taken the coveted top spot in the 2013 Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Examinations in Grenada.

Their student, Josh Henry, is ranked number one on the island with his accomplishment of 14 passes with 14 distinctions.

Second place went to Zoya Buckmire of the St. Joseph’s Convent, St. George's with 11 passes and 11 distinctions; and third place returned to the GBSS with Ryan DeRiggs securing 11 passes with 10 distinctions and one grade 2.

The sister island of Carriacou is also in the spotlight this year claiming the 4th, 5th and 6th highest positions nationwide.

The three Bishop’s College students; Shadell Peters, Shian Ollivierre and Texanne Gabriel made their alma mater proud with passes of 11, 11 and 10 subjects, respectively.

Seventh place returned to the St. Joseph’s Convent where student, Leshae A. Cenac, secured 10 passes with 10 distinctions.

A total of 3,096 candidates were registered to write CXC (CSEC) examinations this year.

Of these, 2,162 were students attending schools and 934were private candidates.

The pass rate in this year’s examinations has increased to 70.26% compared to last year’s pass rate of 64.41%.
